Tourism sustainability expert from the Netherlands
He is supporting governments, destinations and the business sector in developing and implementing tailor-made certification programs. Through Green Destinations’ strategic partnerships with ITB Berlin, Outdooractive a.o., these programs provide a unique transparency and credibility as well as promotional and branding opportunities to the travel market, as is illustrated by the Slovenia Green model.
Albert has an academic background in coastal ecology and environment. He led programs supporting European Union policies for coastal erosion and for tourism. He established the QualityCoast Awards (2007) and Green Destinations (2014), which is now active in 65+ countries. He created the Destinations Top 100 competition (2014) and co-created the GSTC-Accredited Green Destinations certification.
In 2020 he created the Good Travel Guide and the Good Travel Program, offering a variety of tools to assess, support, certify and promote the sustainability of tourism businesses. The program offers special solutions for micro-businesses and SME as well as fully GSTC-Accredited business certification, with white label options to support destination or country-wide branding.
